Introducing Jack Mattson: Your Guide

Thank you for visiting my website. I’m Captain Jack from Central Oregon, and we are fishing the Columbia River from Astoria up to McNary Dam. I have more than 30 years of experience fishing the PNW. I am a United States Coast Guard Licensed Captain and Licensed Fishing Guide. I started fishing early in life realizing very fast that nothing else matters while you’re on the water, I have been hooked on the sport ever since. In 2013 I started to pursue my guide license for one of my favorite fisheries in the PNW White Sturgeon, but ODFW had other plans for that. In 2014 Sturgeon fishing was all but shut down. It wasn’t until 2018 I re-discovered a fishery, that I had tagged along by my dad’s side nearly 35 years ago, that brought me where I am today. A Bowfishing guide sharing my passion for bowfishing with so many people that are unfamiliar with the sport. I look forward to being your captain, catching some fish and making an unforgettable trip. Fish on!

Our Boat and Gear

The Boat:
2023 Timber Creek 2472, running a Mercury 250 ProXs. Bringing the South to the North with a twist, I knew what I needed after running a few different boats here in the Pacific Northwest and that was a bay boat with just enough V to break some chop and a motor big enough to pack fish and crew.

Day Trips:
The boat is built with an elevated deck, giving a better view during the day for sight fishing and shooting carp.

Night Trips:
Equipped with 13 lights, this setup is using 1900 watts projecting 222,000 lumens. Night turns into day and we can shoot fish all night long.

Bowfishing Gear:
Oneida bows for everyone. I’ve got custom bows built for men, women and youth, adjustable draw, length and weight. We are using muzzy reels on Impale archery rests, shooting TNT barbed tips, putting more fish in the boat every trip.

Fishing Species and Gear Variations:
Sturgeon — I have teamed up with Madkatz Rods running 40 series Daiwa saltist line counters
Walley — I have a wide variety of rods on the boat. All the trolling rods I’m running, Daiwa-Lexa line counters L/R, and for jigging the Pen Fierce has not let me down.
Salmon — Same story 20 series Daiwa Saltist line counters on qualty 10′ fast action 360-degree rods.
